Dr Nimalan Harinesan is a compassionate neurologist and neurophysiologist committed to providing expert, patient-centred care for people living with neurological disorders. He believes in taking the time to listen, explain complex conditions in an understandable way, and work collaboratively with patients to develop personalised treatment plans.

Dr Harinesan completed his education at the University of Sydney graduation with a BSci(Adv) and MBBS. He undertook medical training at a variety of hospitals in NSW, including Concord Hospital, Canterbury Hospital, Blue Mountains hospital and The Tweed Heads Hospital, before undertaking specialist neurology training at Concord Hospital, Liverpool Hospital and Westmead Hospitals, gaining extensive experience across a broad range of neurological disorders at several major tertiary hospitals.

Following completion of his Australian specialist training, he undertook a prestigious fellowship in Autoimmune Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA—one of the world's leading centres for neurological research and clinical care. During this fellowship, he developed advanced expertise in the diagnosis and management of autoimmune diseases affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles.

His clinical interests include multiple sclerosis (MS), autoimmune neurology, neuromuscular disorders, epilepsy, headache disorders, and general neurology. He has particular expertise in diagnosing complex neurological conditions where advanced neurophysiological testing and subspecialist assessment are required.

In addition to his clinical neurology practice, Dr Harinesan is an experienced neurophysiologist and performs a comprehensive range of diagnostic studies including:

• Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)

• Single Fibre EMG (SFEMG)

• Electroencephalography (EEG)

• Visual Field Testing (VFT)

• Evoked Potentials

These investigations play a vital role in diagnosing disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, muscles, and neuromuscular junction.

Dr Harinesan is committed to ensuring his patients have access to the latest advances in neurological care. He remains actively involved in contemporary neurological practice and regularly participates in continuing medical education, national and international conferences, and multidisciplinary collaboration with colleagues throughout Australia.

He currently serves as a Visiting Medical Officer with the Central Coast Local Health District and as a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, where he continues to care for patients with complex neuroimmunological disorders. He works closely with general practitioners, rehabilitation physicians, neurosurgeons, ophthalmologists, rheumatologists, and other specialists across New South Wales to deliver coordinated, multidisciplinary care.
